Financial Strategy & Compensation Plan

The Democracy Ensemble will be launched with an initial investment of $10,000 provided by the Tierney family. These funds are intended to support the organization's developmental phase, including outreach, planning, recruitment, administrative expenses, and the early stages of production.

From its inception, The Democracy Ensemble is envisioned as a professional performing arts organization. Our expectation is that all participants will bring professional standards of artistry, preparation, collaboration, and commitment to the project.
We also believe that professional artists deserve professional compensation for their work. As a newly established organization, however, our initial financial resources are necessarily limited. Until sustainable funding is secured through grants, donations, sponsorships, ticket sales, and other revenue sources, it will not be possible to compensate participants at prevailing professional rates. HOWEVER...in recognition of the time, talent, and dedication contributed by each member of the company, the current plan is to provide every professional-level* participant with a $500 honorarium. While modest, this honorarium is intended as a tangible expression of our appreciation and our commitment to treating every artist with dignity and respect.

Our long-term objective is to build a financially sustainable organization capable of providing competitive professional compensation while producing original musical theater that encourages civic engagement, strengthens democratic values, and demonstrates the power of the performing arts to bring people together across differences.

*Note: Professional-level refers to the quality of an individual's skills and performance, not necessarily to their current employment status. Many exceptionally talented artists are not currently working professionally but possess the ability, training, and experience to do so.
