FOUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The Democracy Ensemble is seeking founding members who believe that music, theater, and storytelling can strengthen democracy and bring people together.

We're looking for people who:

  • Believe in democracy and civic engagement.
  • Respect differing viewpoints.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively.
  • Believe music, theater, and storytelling can make a positive difference.
  • Want to help build something meaningful from the ground up.

We are seeking talented, creative, and passionate individuals
to help launch the Democracy Ensemble in
the following roles:

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Dr. Tierney

The Executive Producer provides the overall vision and leadership for the Democracy Ensemble, secures funding and guides the organization's artistic mission.

COMPOSER/PLAYWRIGHT: Dr. Tierney
The Composer/Playwright provides the artistic vision for each production and works collaboratively with the Director and Musical Director to bring that vision to life, offering guidance and support throughout the creative process.

PRODUCER

The Producer works closely with the Executive Producer to coordinate productions, schedules, budgets, fundraising, marketing, and day-to-day operations. Strong organizational skills and a passion for collaborative theater are essential.

DIRECTOR / CHOREOGRAPHER

The Director/Choreographer will collaborate with the Producer to bring each production to life through staging, movement, and visual storytelling while fostering a creative, supportive, and collaborative rehearsal environment. For our inaugural production, the roles of Director and Choreographer are combined into a single position. Because the project will be a concert reading rather than a fully staged musical, we believe one creative leader can best shape the staging, movement, and overall theatrical presentation.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR/ACCOMPANIST

The Musical Director/Accompanist is responsible for vocal preparation, musical rehearsals, and piano accompaniment as needed. Because the Democracy Ensemble's inaugural production will be presented as a concert reading using professionally recorded accompaniment tracks, the accompanist will primarily use the piano during rehearsals. During performances, the Musical Director will likely oversee playback and live sound mixing to ensure a seamless musical presentation.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

The Technical Director coordinates the technical aspects of production including lighting, sound, projections, and backstage operations.

PERFORMERS: Five Women (S.A.) and Five Men (T.B.)

Experienced musical theater performers (sing-dance-act) capable of handling both featured solos and ensemble harmonies, comfortable with basic stage movement, and able to deliver script dialogue convincingly. While the music is written for SATB voices, the required vocal ranges are generally well within the abilities of most accomplished musical theater performers.

SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

The S,M.&C. TEAM helps build awareness of the Democracy Ensemble through social media, photography, video, newsletters, publicity, and community outreach. Ideal for someone who enjoys telling stories through digital media and helping organizations grow.
