Musician/Trombonist

Jack Tierney, TROMBONIST is a mature musician with more than fifty years professional experience. A former “first-call player” in the Hartford/Springfield region, Jack holds a Master of Music Degree in Applied Trombone (UMASS-1969) and has performed most recently with the Vermont Jazz Center Big Band (nine years).  His “classical” credits include performances with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, The Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Brass Quintet. And his “pop/jazz” credits include performances with The Ronnie Drumm Big Band, The Ray Taylor Big Band, The Barnum and Baily Circus Band, The Ice Capades Orchestra, and the NBC Production of Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby to mention a few.

Jack “retired” from active playing in 2012 after a major dental reconstruction. He recently took his horn “out of the closet” and has been working daily to “get back in shape.” After several months of long tones, lip slurs, and scales, Jack is ready to re-emerge as a senior player. Jack recently joined a local "Street/Honk" Band called "Prone to Mischief" and he looks forward to many opportunities to have fun with this band which was the reason he started playing the trombone in 4th grade.
